Traditional Sashiko is a centuries-old Japanese stitching technique admired for its beautiful rows of decorative hand stitching. In this two-session class, you'll create that timeless look using your sewing machine while making a striking modern table runner that combines the precision of the AccuQuilt Cutting System with the beauty of Sashiko-inspired quilting.
You'll begin by cutting your project with our AccuQuilt Cutting Systems and AccuQuilt Strip Dies. We'll provide the cutting machines and dies, giving you the opportunity to experience the speed, accuracy, and versatility of die cutting while discovering that Strip Dies are designed for so much more than cutting binding strips. Then you'll piece your table runner while learning accurate seam allowances, matching points, seam alignment, pressing techniques, and professional piecing skills.
Once your table runner is assembled, you'll discover how a simple straight stitch, combined with the proper machine settings, can create the look of traditional Sashiko. You'll learn the stitch settings, thread selection, spacing, and quilting techniques that produce this elegant hand-stitched appearance using your sewing machine.
Whether you're new to AccuQuilt, new to machine quilting, or simply looking for a fresh decorative style, you'll leave with a beautiful table runner, a versatile new quilting technique, and creative ideas you can apply to quilts, bags, placemats, and many future projects.
