Come and learn how to make the most of your Serger. Wherever you are in your Overlock journey, you can build on that skill level, gain confidence and learn more skills and techniques. The monthly classes will help you to be accountable to practice and improve. You will make sample size pieces to put in a notebook for future reference.
Month #1 July 2024
Refresh on the basics of your Serger. Learn the anatomy of the Serger and how each of the needles and loopers work together. In this session you will set your Serger for a basic 4 thread overlock and a 3 thread overlock. Setting and adjusting the tension will be covered in this first session as well as cover stitch width, length and the differential feed.
Month #2 August 2024
In this session we will be practicing how to overlock inside curves and outside curves and connecting your stitching end to end. We will also cover how to secure the ends of a seam and how to hide them and tuck in the tails.
Month #3 September 2024
This month we will learn about narrow rolled hems using decorative thread. We will also cover making a wired ribbon for home decor projects. This is a great way to create your own gift-wrapping bows out of your fabric stash.
Month #4 October 2024
This month's focus is overlocking with knit fabrics. We will put in a ribbing band around a neck hole for a t-shirt application. Learn how to utilize the differential feeding to prevent overstretching and or create a decorative lettuce edge.
Month #5 November 2024
This month we will focus on overlocking decorative flatlock seams. Use the flatlock functionality on your Serger to create beautiful home decor pillows and add interest to table runners and place mats.
Month #6 December 2024
The grand finale will be to make the "Pocket Serger Travel Bag". This will take all of your skills and give you the confidence to combine them all into a fantastic travel bag. This will make a wonderful gift just in time for Christmas. This final class will also introduce using your serger to sew in a zipper.
